The Vlamingii Tang, commonly called Vlaming”s Unicornfish, has a brown to purple body color when an adult. As a juvenile, the color graduates from lighter, dorsaly, to darker, ventrally. It has vertical markings along the body and blue highlights. There are sparing details of blue on the dorsal fin, anal fin, tail, and face.
An aquarium of 360 gallons or larger aquarium is needed for the Vlamingii Tang to provide plenty of swimming room and places to hide. A tight fitting-lid should be on the aquarium to prevent the fish from jumping out. The Vlamingii Tang gets aggressive towards other tangs, but is peaceful with other fish and will not harm sessile invertebrates.
The Vlamingii Tang will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, but it is important they are offered plenty of seaweed and algae. The vegetation will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health. Use a veggie clip to offer dried seaweed and feed at least three times per week.
