The Striped Raphael Catfish has a tadpole-like body shape with bold black and white stripes. It is a peaceful fish, but full of personality and can be a pleasure to watch in the aquarium. This catfish has an impressive set of spines running along its lateral line. The Striped Raphael Catfish also has pronounced, dagger-like dorsal and pectoral fins that adds to its defenses against predators. Extreme care should be taken when netting due to the spines.
Striped Raphael Catfish are often referred to as “talking catfish” because a croak is made when they feel threatened. It is a hardy and easy to care for fish that does well in a community aquarium with other peaceful the Striped Raphael Catfish is nocturnal which means it needs ample places to hide during the day. A planted aquarium with driftwood and rocks to provide cave overhangs and tunnels.
A variety of foods should be offered including sinking pellets and small freeze-dried and frozen food such as bloodworms and brine shrimp.
