A Shubunkin is a single-tailed type of goldfish. It is a hardy fish that has a molted color pattern of white, black, red, and orange. The Shubunkin is also known as the Speckled or Harlequin Goldfish.
An ideal set up for a mature Shubunkin should be a pond of at least 180 gallons with gravel substrate, rocks, and hearty plants. The fish will grow in proportion to the size of the surroundings it is in. Shubunkins like to eat roots off of plants and will dig to get them. Large rocks should be provided around the base of the plants to protect the roots. The pond should have adequate filtration to maintain proper water conditions.
The Shubunkin should be fed pellet or flake food that does not exceed 30% protein.
