The Royal Pleco is a stout, muscular fish with a distinct “tadpole” shape. It has a truncated body with a pronounced anterior that gives it a “top-heavy” appearance. The Royal Pleco is also known as the Royal Panaque, Royal Black-Lined Panaque, and Broke Line Royal Pleco. It has irregular black streaks on a deep mossy colored body.
A healthy environment for the Royal Pleco has hearty, fast growing plants, high aeration, and water movement. Rocks and driftwood help create a natural environment and provide hiding places to reduce stress.
The Royal Pleco is not a picky eater and will not be difficult to feed. It gets most of its food from cleaning algae and food off the bottom of the aquarium. If there is not any algae or leftover food they should be supplemented with flake food, sinking carnivore pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex.
