They have a community-oriented temperament but become slightly territorial when breeding. Discus are intolerant of poor water quality, so partial water changes are required and proper filtration must be maintained at all times.
Pigeon Blood Discus require a minimum of 50 gallons that has plenty of plants and branching root. They should not be housed with aggressive fish or with intense lighting and strong water currents. Pigeon Blood Discus should be a fed a variety of meaty foods such as white worms, blood worms, Tubifex worms, high protein pellets, and flake foods. Their diets should be higher in proteins and fats than the average tropical fish.
