The Niger Triggerfish is also known as Red Tooth Triggerfish, and Black Triggerfish. The Niger Trigger’s colors can look quite different depending on the lights they are under. Sometimes they will look teal green under high output lighting and under subdued lighting they look almost black. As an adult, they acquire bright red teeth, and are normally dark purple in color with a blue/green highlight around their face making them quite interesting to watch when they eat.
The young Niger Triggerfish is usually not overly aggressive. The Niger Triggerfish may defend a preferred hiding place, but it does not roam about the aquarium looking for trouble. Most adult Niger Triggerfish kept in community aquariums with similarly sized fish will ignore their neighbors.
The Niger Triggerfish needs a varied diet of meaty foods including; squid, krill, clams, small fish and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.
