The Hornwort plant, also known as the Coontail, is a sturdy plant with layered hair-like foliage that produces oxygen in the aquarium. It can also clarify the water quality and keep algae growth to a minimum.
The leaves are dark green and can grow up to an inch and a half long. The stems can reach a good 24 inches in length when in proper water conditions. Hornwort can be found free-floating, in moving or still waters, or anchored loosely to a muddy bottom. They may be potted or can float in the aquarium.
