The Common Pleco, also known as the Sailfin Pleco, is different shades of brown with a lighter pattern of markings. It has a large dorsal fin, which is where it receives its name from.
A healthy environment for the Common Pleco has hearty, fast growing plants, high aeration, and water movement. Rocks and driftwood help create a natural environment and provide hiding places to reduce stress.
The Common Pleco is not a picky eater and will not be difficult to feed. It gets most of its food from cleaning algae and food off the bottom of the aquarium. If there is not any algae or leftover food they should be supplemented with flake food, sinking carnivore pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex.
