The Maxima Clam is also known as the Small Giant Clam and is the most recognized species of giant clams. It has many vivid colors and a variety of rich patterns. If proper lighting is used, they are a beautiful display in a reef aquarium. Maxima Clams are graded for size, intensity of colors, and complexity of patterns, then priced accordingly.
Maxima Clams are very hardy if they have strong lighting and proper water clarity. All clams have a symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae, which provide most of its food and nutrients it needs to live.
These clams like attach themselves to rocky substrate. They also like to attach to a place with high water flow. Smaller Maxima Clams under two inches require supplemental feeding of phytoplankton or greenwater supplement several times per week.
